Dr. Aley Tohamy ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Dr. Aley El-Din Tohamy is a board-certified, fellowship-trained Minimally Invasive, Robotic Bariatric and General surgeon. He has more than 15 years of clinical experience in Robotic, Laparoscopic, Bariatric, Foregut, and Gastrointestinal Surgery. Dr. Tohamy's clinical interests are Bariatric surgery and studying its effect on metabolic syndrome and diabetes with a special interest in the recent technology used in the field of minimally invasive surgery. He is experienced in hernia surgery as well as applying recent technology in hernia repair. Dr. Tohamy has spearheaded the development of General Surgery Residency at his current institution by organizing a whole team of surgeons to obtain the ACGME accreditation in 2017. He is interested in healthcare management and leadership in the surgical arena and influencing local political healthcare decision making by joining the boards of The Philadelphia Academy of Surgery, The Metropolitan Philadelphia American College of Surgeons, and The Philadelphia Chapter of the American Society of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery. Dr. Tohamy has held the chairmanship of the department of Surgery since 2016 as his most recent leadership achievement at Crozer Chester Medical Center, which is the main hospital in Chester Pennsylvania, one of the underserved communities in the suburbs of Philadelphia. He has also held various positions, including Clinical Instructor at the Department of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, House staff at Chestnut Hill Hospital, Attending staff surgeon at Chestnut Hill Hospital, Attending staff and breast surgeon at the VA Hospital of Philadelphia, and Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at Drexel University College of Medicine and the University Of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Dr. Tohamy is currently the Director of Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery, Director of Robotic Surgery, and Chair of the Department of Surgery at Crozer Keystone Health System.
