Dr Hazem Al Momani - Head of Department and Bariatric Surgery Program Director at Weight
Management Unit in NMC Royal Hospital-Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi. He is a Consultant Laparoscopic General
and Bariatric Surgeon. He finished his surgical training in the UK and at the end of which he was awarded
a fellowship in advanced Oesophago-Gastric surgery which he spent in the Cancer Institute Hospital in
Tokyo, Japan, learning the principles of surgical treatment of oesophago-gastric cancers. Afterwards, he
went on to be awarded the Royal College of Surgeon of England fellowship in advanced Upper GI and
Bariatric Surgery. He worked as a Consultant Upper GI and Bariatric Surgeon in the UK and held the
position of Senior Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Swansea University, School of Medicine.
Dr Hazem Al Momani Chair of the Communication Committee of the International Federation for the
Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO) and the Chair of the Communication Committee of
Middle East and North Africa Chapter of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and
Metabolic Disorders (IFSO-MENAC). Dr Hazem Al Momani is a member of the Editorial Board of Obesity
Surgery Journal – the official journal of IFSO.
